CODA Earns Best-in-Class Range Rating from EPA
LOS ANGELES – March 13, 2024 – CODA Automotive, a leading developer of all-electric vehicles, today announced that the all-electric 31kWh 2012 CODA sedan earned a combined (city/highway) range of 88 miles per full charge range rating from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) based on standard testing procedures.
“CODA set out to build a car with best-in-class range, in terms of total distance and dependability, and we believe our test results verify that we have accomplished our goal,” said Phil Murtaugh, CEO of CODA Holdings. “While our own testing has achieved even better range per charge than the EPA test shows, we welcome the best-in-class rating and we are committed to continuously improving our range value for dollar.”
The EPA rating of 88 miles is a uniform government standard using combined highway and city driving range. Even in varied temperatures, CODA’s active thermal management system and sophisticated battery management system (BMS) helps ensure that the driving range can remain consistent and helps optimize battery performance. This means for a consumer, that even in cold temperatures – when mileage can be compromised for any battery – the CODA’s active thermal management will circulate warm air to help maintain the battery’s peak performance capabilities. In hot climates, cool air will circulate to help maintain the integrity of the battery’s life and durability.
“I’m proud of our industry-leading 10-year, 100,000-mile battery limited warranty and range,” said Thomas Hausch, SVP of sales, marketing and aftersales for CODA Automotive. “Additionally, the MSRP dollar per range mile cost of ownership of the CODA sedan is best-in-class at $423/mile when based on the EPA 88 combined range and possibly as low as$298/mile based on a 125 mile range.”
The EPA estimates that the CODA will cost customers $850 annually in fuel costs. This estimate is based on the national average electricity price of $.12/kWh, understanding the cost of electricity varies widely from state to state. The EPA also says the CODA will save customers $8,350 in fuel costs over five years when compared to the average new vehicle. This is based on an estimate of $3.70/gallon of gas, far below a price that current trends indicate will soon be the norm.
The CODA sedan is aimed squarely at the average consumer. It’s the only all-electric vehicle in the most popular body type – a four-door, five-passenger sedan – with a full-sized trunk. It comes standard with amenities that American consumers expect, including integrated Bluetooth for hands-free phone connectivity, a state-of the-art Alpine® navigation system with seven inch color touch screen and six speaker AM/FM/CD/DVD and a USB port for phone/MP3 player/tablet connectivity.
The new 2012 CODA is the first all-electric five-passenger, mid-size sedan with full rear seating and trunk space that meets American drivers’ daily transportation needs without an ounce of gasoline:
- Best-in-class(i) EPA range rating: The 31kWh 2012 CODA mileage vehicle features 88 miles per charge. Depending on driving habits, it can be driven up to 125 miles(ii) on a single charge, nearly four times the average daily commute(iii).
- Best-in-class(i) range per dollar: The 31kWh 2012 CODA has an MSRP of $37,250, and can go up to 125 miles on a single charge(ii). In California, federal and individual state tax saving and credits may bring the price down to $27,250(iv).
- Fast and easy recharging: An unbeatable 6.6kW onboard charging capability provides a full charge in about six hours on 240 V (Level 2 EVSE).
- Dependable range: The active thermal management system provides constant battery care by keeping the battery pack at its optimum temperature in hot and cold weather conditions.
- The best EV battery warranty: The electric vehicle sedan is powered by an efficient Lithium-iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery pack with an industry leading 10-year, 100,000-mile limited battery warranty.
